Brand new to Human Figure

Done as part of a 30 minute class. My current goal is: Improve at correctly capturing the overall proportions of the human form. I would like to know if I could start a course on skeleton and bones at this stage, or maybe do both things in parallel? Gesture sessions and anatomy/human bones? Thanks in advance for the tips.

Pink Panther2043,

Do you have a local library or college library near you? Sometimes, and more often than you think, you can check out a skeleton. Some of these are donated human remains for this exact purpose. Goolish? Yes, but very helpful.

While you are there, see if they have Robert Hales' Drawing From The Masters. It's probably one of the most returned books by artists for its exercises and one of the most recommended by a majority of professors for their college courses over the past 30+ years.

I hope this was helpful.

All of the best,

Thank you for the tip on the book! I have purchased a course on Udemy on the human skeleton and bones. I will start it. I can buy the book on Amazon, it is avaliable here. Thank you for your support!

I think you could try focusing on one specific issue at a time, such as human proportions or gesture/dynamics. These are aspects that are relatively easy to observe in reference photos. Practicing these will also help make your drawing lines more fluid. Once you have a good grasp of normal human proportions, you can then move on to the next stage. :) learning about bones and muscles isn't absolutely necessary at this point.

(My English isn't very good, so please bear with me if there are any mistakes.)

Thanks! I'm doing Gesture sessions everyday and watching the Proko videos. Once a week I will make a lesson of this course: "Learn to Draw the Anatomy of the Skeleton, and understand why it's critical for Character Art, Manga and more". Let's see how much I'll improve in the next months!
